JOHN FAWCETT

About this artist

John Fawcett grew up in Iowa and, after attending college on the East Coast, he returned to Iowa to attend veterinary school. He was a practicing veterinarian for twenty years before selling his practice in 1996 to fully devote his time to painting. Working in watercolor and oil, his firsthand knowledge of animals is evident in his work. He and his wife Elizabeth, currently divide their time between a ranch in Clark, Colorado and a horse farm in Pennsylvania.
Fawcett has been invited to show his work at the Autry Museum’s Masters of the American West, where he won the Award for Watercolor in 2015, 2014, 2010, and 2006. He was honored to present a talk at the 2017 Masters Show titled ” Horse Sense:Paint What You Know”. He has shown his work at the Quest for the West at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis. He won the Museum Purchase Award at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Art Show in 2006, and the Artists’ Choice Award at the Buffalo Bill Art Show in 1996. The Steamboat Art Museum honored him with a retrospective exhibition in 2015.
Fawcett’s work has appeared in Art of the West, Cowboys & Indians, Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, and Western Horseman. His work is in museum collections throughout the country, including the Tucson Museum of Art, the James Museum, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Art Museum, and the Steamboat Art Museum.
