ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

I depict a young man, a Hopi pot maker. He’s carrying on the tradition of his people as he paints symbols on clay pots. It is summer. As he works, he feels the warmth of the sun’s caress his back. It is a spiritual task, this ‘painting of the pots’. He has been taught from childhood to ask the Great Spirit for assistance in guiding his hands.

I am learning to love the quiet, simple pleasures of life. Is it possible that we only learn the great lessons of life during the peaceful ‘alone’ times?

Note: The true title of this piece is “Tsa-g’ab’da’l’ao’ga.” In the Hopi language it means “The one who makes pots.”
