BY SCOTT ROGERS
I depict a young man, a Hopi pot maker. Heâs carrying on the tradition of his people as he paints symbols on clay pots. It is summer. As he works, he feels the warmth of the sunâs caress his back. It is a spiritual task, this âpainting of the potsâ. He has been taught from childhood to ask the Great Spirit for assistance in guiding his hands.
I am learning to love the quiet, simple pleasures of life. Is it possible that we only learn the great lessons of life during the peaceful âaloneâ times?
Note: The true title of this piece is âTsa-gâabâdaâlâaoâga.â In the Hopi language it means âThe one who makes pots.â
