“EL VAQUERO”

The ‘Vaquero’ is the original cowboy.  Ever heard of the name, ‘buckaroo’? It is a derivative of the word ‘vaquero’ (in Spanish the ‘v’ is pronounced like a ‘b’). The Mexican vaquero’s were, and still are, some of the world’s finest horsemen.

Study the early Mexican vaquero’s and you’ll see that the American cowboy owes a great deal to his way of life (i.e. habits, tack, skills).
