"About ten years ago, Roxane and I got to spend about three weeks traversing the
Kawdy Plateau in northern British Columbia. One of my fondest memories from
that trip was seeing all the Hoary Marmots. Similar to the wood chuck, but
usually smaller and with a white cape; their antics are always fun to watch. As we
rode our horses through vast wilderness valleys, they would always scurry from
rock to rock often standing upright to get a better view of these intruders. Their
shrill high pitched chirps could be heard echoing across the mountain side
announcing our progress to any other critters that might be within ear shot.
Grizzlies love to dig for them in their subterranean homes, usually deep within a
huge pile of rocks."
