About this artist

Joni Falk, a realist painter of still life and landscapes, has called Phoenix home since 1960. She grew up in Chicago and is a graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was the Southwest culture and history that provided the ingredients that compelled her to a full time career in the field of art. Joni soon became well known throughout the United States and Canada for her paintings of Indian life. Inspiration for her paintings of the Pueblo Indians and teepee villages came from visits to New Mexico and the Jackson, Wyoming areas.

Collecting Indian artifacts became a source for many of her Southwest still life paintings. Joni’s many exhibitions include the National Museum of Wildlife Art, in Jackson, Wyoming; the Albuquerque Museum in New Mexico; Cheyenne’s Old West Museum’s permanent collection; and the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona. Some of the books that have featured her work are The Best of Flower Painting 1997, Energizing your Paintings with Color 1993, Tony Couch’s Keys to Successful Painting 1992, as well as Southwest Art, Art of the West, and Art West magazines. She has also been a popular instructor at the Scottsdale Artist’s School. Joni enjoys sharing her experiences with others. Joni’s statement: “An artist must persevere in order to survive. Everything else comes as a result of that”… which probably accounts for the consistent quality of her work. With each new painting, her goal is to evoke a mood in her work to which viewers will respond.
