SCOTT CHRISTENSEN
Legacy Gallery Santa Fe
Scott Christensen is a nationally acclaimed American landscape painter known for his
atmospheric compositions and refined plein air technique. With over 30 years of
professional experience, Christensen has developed a distinctive approach rooted in
classical training, a deep connection to nature, and disciplined studio practice.
Born in 1962, Christensen grew up in Lander, Wyoming, a place of extreme geography and wild beauty. It was not until college, however, that he would recognize nature as his muse. Originally pursuing a career in athletics, Christensen turned to painting following a life-
changing injury while on a football scholarship at Chadron State College. He went on to
earn a degree in Art Education, ultimately choosing to paint full-time. His work is heavily
informed by the study of masters such as Anders Zorn, Isaac Levitan, and Joaquin
Sorolla, and is distinguished by his use of a limited palette and keen sense of light and
form.
Christensen’s paintings have been exhibited in many of the country’s leading museum
and invitational shows, including the Prix de West at the National Cowboy & Western
Heritage Museum and Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum. In 2013, he
was invited to exhibit at the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg State Academic Institute in
Russia—one of the highest honors in academic painting.
His work is held in numerous private and public collections, including the permanent
collection of Grand Teton National Park’s Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center.
In addition to his studio practice, Christensen is an influential educator, offering
workshops and mentorships for emerging artists across the U.S.
