The Pond at Sundown – SOLD
BRENT COTTON
Sold
Brent Cotton is a nationally recognized landscape painter known for his moody,
atmospheric works in the Tonalist and Luminist traditions. Raised on a cattle ranch in
Idaho, he was first inspired by his grandmother, a watercolorist, and began sketching the
cowboys and horses of his rural surroundings at a young age.
After moving to Lindsborg, Kansas—a town with a rich artistic heritage—Cotton was
encouraged by a high school mentor to pursue art professionally. He later studied under
celebrated artists, including Howard Terpning at the Cowboy Artists of America workshop.
Today he prefers to paint in the Tonalist/Luminist style made popular in the late 1800’s,
seeking to create works that are mood-evoking and have a timeless quality.
Cotton is also an avid plein air painter, often hiking with a portable easel to capture the
fleeting moods of nature. His goal is to create timeless, emotion-driven landscapes that
invite quiet reflection.
