SILAS THOMPSON
Manitou Galleries
Raised in the wild heart of central Idaho, Silas grew up immersed in the rugged terrain that continues to shape his vision as an artist. From an early age, he was captivated by both drawing and the untamed beauty of nature—nurtured by his parents’ deep love and a reverence for a creation far greater than any human hand could replicate. For Silas, true adventure still waits beyond the reach of the city—about 50 miles past the last stoplight—where risk amplifies beauty and danger sharpens the senses.
Much of his childhood was spent deep in the backcountry alongside his father, where he came to recognize the distinct “birthmarks” of the American landscape: from valleys and high deserts to mountain peaks and winding rivers still carving the earth. These experiences embedded a desire in him to create artwork that doesn’t just depict nature, but evokes memory, emotion, and the physical presence of a place. His paintings strive to capture the illusion of time, solidity, and movement—imbued with a sense of risk, wonder, and reverence.
After earning his degree, Silas honed his craft through five years of intensive apprenticeship, deepening both his technique and discipline. His work is rooted in gratitude for the intricate beauty of creation, where everything from a daisy to a raven to a thunderhead points him back to God with awe and inspiration.
Silas’s greatest source of support and joy comes from his wife and children, whom he considers his most valuable earthly treasures.
