Framed in Antique Architectural Window
“We had this last piece of a very old salvaged gothic arched-top window frame. Christen flipped it upside down and it struck us as being a very much like a buffalo head. We often see the Picuris Puebloâs herd of bison driving up to visit friends in Peñasco. So I went up and watched the herd, mostly grazing with random bursts of running. Back in the studio I would draw from my minds eye. The composition was lacking something so to clear my head I walked along the Rio Embudo. Flocks of mourning doves would randomly burst from the grasses and thatâs when a less than satisfying drawing of a bison became Buffalo Wings. As I was completing the painting our son Sage brought us the rusty piece of metal that graces the top. He found it in dirt around his old adobe compound. Christen nailed it to the frame and it was complete.”
